Eye Protection not what you think it should be...

You know I post about safety and quite a few of you are very avid gun enthusiasts or affiliated with the military that read my blog, and I thought this was an interesting study conducted with good results. I was contacted by Andrew and Paul from Luckygunner.com, Knoxville, TN 37930, they been testing ballistic eye protection.

Andrew is a former Hospital Corpsman HM2 (FMF) and understands the disastrous effects of poor quality eye protection. Included in their tests was the Revision Sawfly, one of the most popular Army-approved eye wear. They also tested a range of cheaper and more expensive eye wear. They discovered, to their surprise, that older eye wear, even if it is high quality, is brittle and will not provide much protection against bullets or shrapnel. Let me tell you after reading their blog, I wanted to let you know that this is really interesting facts. If you find the video and this short post about this good keep reading on their results here!

In the course of their testing, they discovered that there were a few types of eye wear which should not be used as eye protection:
  • impact rated eye pro which has been exposed to sunlight for long periods of time
  • non-impact rated prescription glasses
  • non-impact rated sunglasses
